I believe this is my 2nd or 3rd purchase from you. And yes, I ALWAYS learn something from them. It's impossible to learn everything about playing the guitar from a DVD, but I always know I can put one of yours in and take something away from it each time I watch it. I really like how you lay the licks out in the context of actual songs. Thanks! Jess

Hi Ken,
The new lesson series DVD's are great! It's very informative and breaks things down nicely to learn and understand easier and to get a grasp of not only different inversions of chords, but being able to help quickly identify where all the notes are throughout the neck as well! I've learned quite a bit so far and my only complaint, is that I'm not able to learn more, faster, due my life time constraints! LOL!
You've done an excellent job with this series of DVD's!! Thank you, Scott DuAime

Johnny Hiland - The Chicken Picker

One of biggest guitar mentors for chicken pickin is Johnny Hiland. If  your just getting into country guitar chicken pickin and don't know who Johnny Hiland is, you've got to check him out. He is one of today's hottest guitar players. Not just the country guitar chicken pickin style, but all genre's of music.

I first met Johnny about 5 years ago on one of my visits to Nashville. I was downtown on Broadway Avenue checking out the bands and running into some old friends that I had made years ago during my time living there.

So Johnny was down there playing with the Don Kelly band. Man, I was in awe of this guys speed and accuracy on that guitar! He was unbelievable. Just sitting there watching him inspired me. I couldn't wait to get back home and start practicing some of the licks and technique I learned from just watching him. When the band goes on break Don introduced us and we chatted a for a while. He’s as nice of a guy as he is a player. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to hook up with him on that visit.

But a couple of years later I returned to Nashville and that time I was able to hook up with Johnny Hiland at his home. He teaches private lessons so I gladly paid him for an hours worth of the endless knowledge he has playing country guitar.

We had such a great time that I wound up spending the whole afternoon there at his house playing guitar and chatting about our experiences in Nashville. I left his house that day with a ton of idea’s to help me expand on my own playing skills and felt that I had made a good friend as well. I look forward to seeing him again the next time I venture back there.

I'm not as fast or as clean as Johnny, but he sure has inspired me to be a better guitar player, and person.

The song from my first instructional DVD, "Modern Chicken Pickin" was a take off of an old Buck Owens song called Truck Driving Man that I heard Johnny playing in Nashville the first night I met him. In the video, I teach you 5 blazing chicken pickin solos similar to Johnny's style. Check it out!
